Friedrich Wilhelm University was originally founded in 1810 by Emperor Fridrich Wilhelm III on the initiative of Wilhelm von Humboldt, Johann Gottlieb Frichte, and Friedrich Ernst Daniel Schleiermacher as the University of Berlin. However, from 1828 onwards it has been known as Friedrich Wilhelm University. It is located in the Unter den Linden district of Berlin, Germany.
FWU is regarded as one of the premier universities for studying the natural sciences since its opening in the 19th century, and is famous of pioneering the Humboldtian model of education wherein the student receives an (alleged) holistic mixture of cultural knowledge, general education, and research opportunities.
