The Outsider

Of evil times that men can choose

On evil fate to fall,

What brooding Judgement let you loose

to pick the worst of all?

The Rowers by Rudyard Kipling

Brief Overview

The Outsider is the figurehead and puppet of a nameless Great Old One. In some ways he is very comparable to the lamp of an anglerfish that shines in the dark of the deep sea, designed to lure in humans and communicate with them without costing the mortals their sanity. Although cryptic and odd, he seems approachable and agreeable enough… until he chooses not to be.

Known History

Long ago, there was a remote cult dedicated to a Great Old One whose members smithed a twin-bladed knife from cruel iron, and who quenched the glowing metal in the heart's blood of the son of the cult leader. That cult is now gone. The human dedicants who worshiped that eldritch force are also gone, lost to an unstoppable and indifferent mortality. But the boy is not gone: his spirit was flung into the screaming void between the stars following his body's expiration. There he lingered for over a millennia, suspended in that darkness, being endlessly consumed by and reborn from the might of the Great Old One until he and that unspeakable force were one and the same.

It was a fate immeasurably worse than mere death.

You will learn more about the Outsider at a later time. When I tell you, I hope you can forgive me.
